Women's Soccer Picks Up 3-1 Win at Wright State in Spring Opener
March 9, 2013
FAIRBORN, Ohio - The Xavier women's soccer team opened its spring 2013 season with a 3-1 win at Wright State on Saturday afternoon. Incoming freshman Tori Doss, who started taking classes at Xavier this semester, scored all three goals for the Musketeers.
"For not having played a competitive game in over four months I feel like we played well today," commented head coach Woody Sherwood. "Jen Perri had a nice game in goal for us today and the starting four back played well also."
Junior Lauren Heap, who was sidelined this past season after suffering an ACL knee injury, saw her first game action since last April. She played 70 minutes on the afternoon, anchoring a solid back line that also featured Alyssa Tindal, Sydnee Fields and Meredith Gleichert.
"We were able to play three different systems today that we have been training this spring," Sherwood said. "They allow us to attack a little bit more. Also, we were able to get more shots off today after struggling offensively this fall."
Xavier tallied 15 shots on the afternoon with three goals scored, all by Doss.
