Women's Soccer Team Posts School Record Team G.P.A. And More

CINCINNATI - The Xavier women's soccer team had an impressive fall on and off the field. XU, which finished 9-8-1 and earned its first winning season since 2005, recorded the highest semester team grade point average in Xavier women's soccer history with a 3.51 GPA. In addition, 15 women's soccer student-athletes earned a spot on the Dean's List for the fall semester.
The Musketeers had three players make the Academic All-Ohio Second Team, junior goalkeeper Katie Markesbery, and seniors Lauren Heap and Mariah Whitaker. Markesbery played in net for 17 matches, finished with an 8-8-1 record in goal and was part of seven shutouts on the year (third all-time for a single season). Heap started in all 18 games for the Musketeers while recording one goal and four assists. Whitaker finished the year with a team-high 37 shots (18 on goal) and tying the team-high in goals with four.
"We are incredibly proud of being able to combine great academics and athletics at Xavier," said Xavier head coach Woody Sherwood. "The commitment our student-athletes make to being successful on the field and in the classroom is outstanding. Nationally, only a select group of teams are able to combine a winning season and a 3.5 GPA."
XU also had one player earn a perfect 4.0 GPA. Junior midfielder Katie Schweer started in 17 games for the Musketeers while earning perfect marks in the classroom.
