PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Duquesne's Lauren Ott handed the Xavier women's soccer team a heartbreaking 1-0 loss in overtime as she chipped in a loose ball in the 99th minute. With the loss, the Musketeers fell to 7-10-0 overall and 3-5-0 in the Atlantic 10. The Dukes improved to 8-7-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the A-10.
Xavier had several opportunities to score as junior Jessica Brooks took five shots in the game. XU finished the contest with 11 total strikes including five shots on goal and seven total strikes in the second half alone.
"We had a great opportunity to earn three points today but unfortunately we didn't do enough with some very good chances," said head coach Woody Sherwood. "Give Duquesne credit, they capitalized on a defensive miscue by us. We are looking forward to taking on Dayton this Friday"
Senior Jenny Rosen played the entire match for the Musketeers and finished with five saves. Her Duquesne counterpart, Gabby Morrin, earned the win with five saves in over 98 minutes of work.
Xavier will close out the regular season as they host No. 25 Dayton Friday, October 29 at 7 p.m. The 2010 senior class will be honored prior to the game.
