CINCINNATI --- The Xavier women’s soccer team lost its fifth straight match on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 setback at Rhode Island. The Musketeers will try to snap the losing streak when they return home next weekend to host Duquesne on Friday and St. Bonaventure on Sunday.

Rhode Island scored the match’s lone goal in the 21st minute as Stephanie Santos took a pass inside the box and finished it off for a 1-0 URI lead. XU’s defense kept the deficit at one goal heading into the break, thanks in part to nine first-half saves from junior goalkeeper Kelly Farrell. But XU was unable to score after intermission as well despite a 6-5 second-half advantage in shot.

While the defense has played well, the offense is still struggling to find the back of the net. XU has now been shut out in four straight matches, including a pair of 1-0 road defeats this weekend.

URI goalkeeper Agnes Arnadottir earned the shutout while recording two saves.

The Rams raised their records to 1-5 in the Atlantic 10 and 5-9-1 overall, while the Musketeers fell to 0-4-1 in the A-10 and 1-11-1 overall.
