Musketeers Fall To Conference-Leader Charlotte

CINCINNATI - Xavier freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Perri pulled down seven saves in just over 45 minutes of work but the Musketeers were unable to post a goal of their own as they fell to Charlotte 3-0 Sunday at the XU Soccer Complex. The Musketeers (2-11-1, 1-4-1 A-10) were led in shots by sophomore Jessica Brooks for the second game in a row. Charlotte (11-2-1, 5-0-1 A-10) maintained their hold on first place in the Atlantic 10 with the win.
Charlotte forward Danielle Mayeaux scored the first goal of the match in the 27th minute when she finished a Sam Huecker corner kick. Jonna Handra scored the second goal of the match at the 36:18 mark when she hit a 25 yard strike to give the 49ers a 2-0 lead at the half. Huecker rounded out the Charlotte scoring when she bent a corner kick into the net in the 65th minute.
Charlotte goalkeeper Lauren Brown earned two saves in 71 minutes of play. Xavier keeper Jenny Rosen played the majority of the second half and pulled down five saves.
The Musketeers return to conference play Friday, October 16 as they travel to Duquesne.
