PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Four second half goals by the Explorers handed the Musketeer women's soccer team a 5-0 loss at La Salle Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Xavier fell to 5-6-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the Atlantic 10 while La Salle improved to 12-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference.
"Being down 1-0 to a Top 25 team at halftime, we felt good about our position," said XU head coach Woody Sherwood. "We had two starters out from injuries Friday and lost another one for the game about 15 minutes in today. I still felt we would be able to compete with La Salle. Credit the Explorers, they were tougher than us and competed harder. We will try to get kids healthy this week and make another tough East Coast trip next weekend."
Danni Alizzo got the Explorers on the board with a goal in the 13th minute. Kelsey Haykook combined for two goals in the second frame along with goals from Renee Washington and Jess Hopton to round out the La Salle scoring.
Xavier returns to action Friday, October 14 as the Musketeers begin a two-game road trip at Atlantic 10 foe Richmond. The Musketeers face George Washington on Sunday, October 16.
