INDIANAPOLIS - The Xavier women's soccer team lost a 1-0 result to Butler in overtime Sunday afternoon at BU's Varsity Field. The Bulldogs scored the golden goal in the 98th minute of the Atlantic 10 matchup.

The Musketeers fall to 6-7-1 on the season and 1-3 in league action while the Bulldogs improve to 8-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 in A-10 play.

"An incredible Atlantic 10 game today," said head coach Woody Sherwood. "We executed our game plan almost flawlessly against a very good Butler team. Butler, coming off a win over Dayton, has shown they may be the conference favorite this year. Our plan today was to get numbers behind the ball, defend and generate a couple of counter attacks. Of the five really good chances on the game, we had two and Butler had three of them. This was as close as you can come to a successful on-the-road result without getting the points. We'll complete our fifth A-10 road trip in a row this coming Saturday at Dayton and then we look forward to a home stretch with an opportunity to play ourselves into the conference tournament."

Xavier recorded three shots on the day, all three coming from freshman Erin McGauley including two on goal. Butler got off 21 shots, 12 of which were on target. The Bulldogs took 10 corner kicks to the Musketeers' zero and XU committed six fouls to BU's three on the afternoon.

Butler's Kelly Mahoney scored the game-winner in the 98th minute and was assisted by Olivia Colosimo.

Sophomore Katie Markesbery (6-7-1) was charged the loss. She recorded 10 saves to one goal against in 97:22 minutes of action.

Julie Burton (5-1-1) was awarded the win for the Bulldogs after also working the entire game. She tallied two saves to zero goals against.

The Musketeers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 13 with a trip up Interstate 75 to take on intrastate Atlantic 10 rival Dayton. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at UD's Baujan Field.
