ST. LOUIS - The Xavier women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss at Saint Louis Friday night in Atlantic 10 action. The Musketeers fall to 6-6-1 overall with the loss and 1-2 in A-10 play while Saint Louis improves to 3-5-3 on the season and 1-0-1 in league action.

"Disappointing result tonight for us," commented head coach Woody Sherwood following the match. 'Getting an early goal called back on an offside call was a tough way to start the game. We felt like we executed the game plan in terms of being solid defensively. We know we're not going to generate a ton of chances but when we do, we are able to get something of quality out of it. The biggest issue in the game tonight for us was no secret, giving up three goals on set pieces. It's very difficult to win a game when you can't defend set plays. The soccer we played was actually pretty good. We have a very tough Butler team on Sunday, who just upset Dayton, and we know we'll have our hands full with them."

Six Musketeers tallied shots on the evening including shots on goal by junior Ashton Green and sophomore Margaret Woods. The Billikens recorded 15 shots in the match, nine of which were on goal.

Saint Louis took six corner kicks to Xavier's two and SLU committed five fouls to XU's four. The Musketeers were twice called offsides while the Billikens committed the offense once.

The Billikens' Maddie Gebauer scored the game-winner in the 22nd minute after corralling a rebound off a free kick, netting the ball from close range. SLU got its second goal of the first half in the 43rd minute when Kailey Pretzlaff found the back of the net on a corner kick. SLU scored another insurance goal during the 59th minute when Maddy Bush headed the ball into the net, also on a corner kick.

Sophomore Katie Markesbery (6-6-1) was charged with the loss after giving up three goals on the night. She tallied six saves in 76:31 minutes of work. Senior Jennifer Perri finished the game between the posts for XU, logging 13:29 minutes of action.

Katie Walsh (3-5-3) was awarded the win. She logged 68:50 minutes of action, recording one save to zero goals against. Hanna Benben played the last 21:10 in the goal for the Billikens, also collecting one save.

The Musketeers return to action Sunday, Oct. 7 with a visit to Indianapolis. Xavier will square off against Butler in its sixth-straight game away from home. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at BU's Varsity Field.
