INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Xavier women's soccer team posted its first tie of the season with a 2-2 draw at Butler Thursday night. After falling behind 0-2 in the first half, senior Jessica Brooks and junior Brooke Eberly got the Musketeers back into the game with two second half goals.
"After bus problems, arriving late and being down 2 goals at halftime, we did a great job clawing back into the game," said head coach Woody Sherwood. "A couple of very good second half goals put us in a great position to win it. Butler is a great team though and a tie was a fair result."
Xavier (5-4-1) fell behind 0-2 in the first half but clawed back when Brooks headed in a long pass by sophomore Lauren Heap in the 69th minute. The Musketeers struck again in the 86th minute when Brooks tapped a free kick to Eberly who finished it with a shot into the upper 90 of the BU goal to tie the game at 2-2.
Brooks and Heap led the Musketeers with four shots each. On the defensive side, freshman Katie Markesbery posted four saves while the XU defense combined for one team save.
Jackie Hafele posted Butler's first goal in the 15th minute while Elsie Kotsakis earned the second goal with a penalty kick in the 40th minute.
Xavier will have the weekend off and will return to action Friday October, 7 as the Musketeers return to Atlantic 10 play at Fordham.
