Women's Soccer Team Records Its Seventh Shutout Of the Season

CINCINNATI --- The Xavier University women's soccer team completed the non-conference portion of the schedule with a 2-0 win over NAIA power University of Northwestern Ohio. Xavier, 7-1-1, has passed the win total for the 2012 season. UNOH fell to 6-3 with the loss.
Xavier didn't waste any time getting on the board tonight, scoring the match's first goal in the sixth minute of action. Sophomore Catherine Allon took a cross from senior Mariah Whitaker and finished from the right side of the box. Whitaker and freshman Tori Doss earned assists on the play. Whitaker scored herself in the 22nd minute with the help of assists from Doss and fellow freshman Courtney Kobashigawa.
Xavier held the visitors scoreless for its seventh shutout of the season. Junior goalkeeper Katie Markesbery earned her sixth win of the season.
Xavier opens BIG EAST Conference action on Thursday night at St. John's at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN3. The women's soccer match on Thursday marks the first-ever BIG EAST competition for any Xavier team.
