DAYTON, Ohio -- The Xavier women's soccer team played in its third straight double-overtime game Friday night, but this time it was the Musketeers who were on the receiving end of a `golden goal' as they fell at No. 19 Dayton 2-1 in the Atlantic 10 opener.

"For us to hang around until double-overtime with one of the best teams in the country is a testament to where the program has come," said Xavier head coach Woody Sherwood. "We really felt we could come away with some points tonight but came up just short. The two great chances we had in overtime will be hard to get over. I'm really proud of the effort tonight from our kids though."

Xavier (5-4-0, 0-1 A-10) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when junior Leslie Boersma finished a pass from sophomore Ashton Green from the top of the box.

The Flyers (9-1-0, 1-0-0 A-10) equalized in the 68th minute on a Alysha Mallon goal. UD forward Alexis Garcia sealed the win for the Flyers with a goal in the 102nd minute from the top of the box.

XU returns action September 29 as they travel to Butler. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
