Bloomington, Ind. --- The Xavier University women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season, 3-0, at Indiana on Wednesday night. The Musketeers' record goes to 5-1-1, while the Hoosiers raise their record to 7-0-1.

“Losing 3-0 it might sound strange to say this but we let an opportunity get away,” said head coach Woody Sherwood. “We had several great chances to tie it and didn’t. Give IU credit. They were very good tonight.”

Indiana's Abby Smith opened the scoring just 12:43 into the first half. IU went into the locker room at halftime with that 1-0 lead. In fact, the score remained 1-0 for over 56 minutes until the Hoosiers' scored an insurance goal in the 69th minute. IU added a third goal with less than two minutes left in the match to extend the final margin to 3-0.

Xavier had four shots on goal, including two from freshman Tori Doss, compared with 11 for the home team.

Xavier returns home on Friday night for a 6:30 p.m. match against Northern Kentucky.
