BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Despite another strong defensive effort, the Xavier women's soccer team fell 1-0 at Indiana Friday night. A late goal in the 84th minute by Hoosier forward Carly Samp was the lone goal of the match.
"Against another very good, very athletic team, we almost stole the game," said XU head coach Woody Sherwood. "Going in we knew we would only have a few chances and we definitely had one of the best chances of the game for either team. At the end of 90 minutes though, IU was certainly deserving of the victory."
Xavier freshman goalkeeper Katie Markesbery posted another strong outing with 10 saves in 87 minutes of action. On the offensive side, sophomore Ashton Green and junior Kelsey Phillips led XU with a shot apiece.
For the Hoosiers, Orianica Velasquez and Samp led the way with three shots each while goalkeeper Lindsay Campbell earned one save.
The Musketeers return to action Friday, September 16 as they host Eastern Kentucky. Kickoff from the XU Soccer Complex is slated for 7 p.m.
