Women's Soccer Team Still Undefeated After Scoreless Tie At Eastern Kentucky
Sep 6, 2013
Richmond, Ky. --- The Xavier University women's soccer team played to a 0-0 double-overtime tie at Eastern Kentucky this afternoon. The Musketeers, 3-0-1, remain unbeaten on the season.
"Credit EKU," said Xavier head coach Woody Sherwood. "They threw everything they had at us. They were difficult to play because they played 10 players behind the ball. Our ball possession was the best of the year but we left some goals out on the field again. We have to get better at finishing and putting teams away. On the defensive side, it was great to get another shutout and it puts us in good shape heading into the Cincinnati match."
Xavier's offense would finish with 13 shots, including four shots on goal, compared with Eastern Kentucky's 16 shots, including five shots on goal.
Xavier junior goalkeeper Katie Markesbery recorded her second straight shutout with five saves, including a big one as time expired in the second overtime period.
Xavier's best chance came when freshman Courtney Kobashigawa hit the crossbar off a header early in the second overtime, just missing a game-winning golden goal.
Eastern Kentucky's record goes to 0-4-1.
Xavier's next match is against crosstown rival Cincinnati next Friday night at the Xavier Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
