Sept. 5, 2007
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
XU, which fell behind 3-0 after just 13 minutes at No. 20 Illinois on Sunday, fell behind 2-0 tonight at Purdue in less than 24 minutes in a game that was broadcast on the new Big Ten Television Network. XU was able to recover after the first half TV timeout, though, and pull within a goal by halftime.
Purdue struck first just 8:58 into the match as Felicia Schroeder beat XU sophomore goalkeeper Kelley Farrell from eight yards out. Kira Bilecky extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal at 23:35. Xavier freshman Carlyanne Wenzel cut the Boilermaker lead in half at 2-1 when she won a scramble for the ball and drilled a shot from 12 yards out at 25:51. Purdue took that 2-1 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The two teams battled for 23 minutes of scoreless action to start the second half. Then Purdue's Parrissa Eyorokon broke free on a run and weaved her way around Farrell for an insurance goal to put the home team up 3-1 at 68:07. Amy Burrell added a fourth Purdue goal in the closing minutes to stretch the final margin to 4-1.
