INDIANAPOLIS - Although the rain poured down for most of the match, the Xavier women's soccer team handed IUPUI a 3-0 loss Sunday afternoon at Carroll Stadium for its first shutout of the year. The game was called with 4:44 remaining in the second half due to weather. Three Musketeers scored goals on the afternoon, including freshman Catherine Allon - the first of her career.

Xavier (2-3-0) was led offensively by junior Mariah Whitaker who took four shots, scored one goal and dished out one assist. XU out-shot IUPUI (1-4-0) by a margin of 15-9, with seven of the 15 coming on goal.

This was the first road win for the Musketeers in 15 tries. XU went 0-12-2 over its previous 14 games away from home.

In the 37' Allon found the back of the net after receiving a cross in the IUPUI six-yard box. Sophomore Margaret Woods was credited with the assist on the first score of the game. The Musketeers stretched their lead to two after a through-ball from Whitaker led to a breakaway for junior Taylor Dearbaugh. The goal was Dearbaugh's first of the season.

The Musketeers scored again just 10 minutes into the second half after Whitaker beat her defender and sent a shot soaring from 18 yards out - her second goal of the season.

Sophomore Katie Markesbery (2-3-0) earned the win for the Musketeers, playing all 90 minutes between the posts for XU. She tallied three saves to zero goals against in her first shutout of the season.

Working all but the first 10 minutes of the contest for the Jaguars, goalkeeper Kristin Haseley (0-1-1) was charged with the loss for IUPUI. Haseley recorded four saves to three goals against in her first loss of the season.

The Musketeers return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 4 with a short trip to Highland Heights, Ky., to take on Northern Kentucky, the team's fourth consecutive game away from home. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at NKU Soccer Stadium.
