Mike Melton is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Xavier University women's soccer team. Melton comes to Xavier after serving as an assistant coach at Samford.
Melton joined Samford's staff in 2013 as an assistant after spending the previous two seasons at his alma mater, the University of Mississippi. Melton helped Samford finish the 2013 season with a 13-6-2 record. Melton played a key role in the Bulldogs' coaching staff where he assisted in training, coordinated team activities and handled the travel responsibilities.
During his time in Oxford, Miss., the 2011 Ole Miss graduate served as the program's graduate assistant and was the co-director of the Ole Miss Soccer Camp. He also assisted with the team's field instruction and created the scouting reports.
Melton, who holds a USSF B license, has also worked on staff at the U.S. Olympic Developmental team in Region III for three years. There, he evaluated and participated in selecting the top players in the region. From 2011-13, Melton also served as the varsity men's coach at Oxford High School, guiding the team to the 2013 Mississippi state championship title.
Melton earned his bachelor's degree in applied sciences from the University of Mississippi in 2011. In 2013, he received his master's degree in recreation administration from Ole Miss. Melton garners a wealth of experience in soccer coaching and holds a USSF National "B" license.
