Josh Green, 36, joined Alvin Alexander'sstaff this Spring as an assistant coach. Green has spent time as an assistant at Minnesota State, Iowa, Pepperdine and most recently Loyola Marymount. "I am excited to add someone with Josh's extensive experience as a coach and a player," said Alexander. "He is a proven recruiter and tactitian as well. He is someone who has a great knowledge of the goalkeeping position from a player's and a coach's perspective." While Green was involved in all aspects of the Loyola Marymount program this past season, he focused a great deal of his attention on recruiting. LMU finised 10-6-3 this past fall, including 5-2 in the West Coast Conference. LMU finished third in the WCC behind a pair of Top 25 schools, Portland and San Diego. Green spent one year at LMU after two years as the Graduate Assistant Coach at Minnesota State University, while working on and completing his master's degree in physical education. Green helped Minnesota State to the 2007 North Central Conference Championship and an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance, along with a Top-10 National Ranking. Green worked with the goalkeepers and defenders, coaching the team to a perfect 12-0 conference record in 2007, allowing just five goals while recording eight shutouts in NCC play. Prior to Minnesota State, Green spent two seasons at the University of Iowa, where he was both goalkeeping coach and recruiting coordinator. Green began his coaching career in the West Coast Conference at Pepperdine, where he spent seven seasons and won the 2002 WCC Championship with NCAA Tournament appearances in 2001, 2002, and 2003. Green was an All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and All-West Region goalkeeper at Cal Lutheran University, an NCAA Division III school in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He went on to play for the San Fernando Valley Golden Eagles of the USISL before serving as the development squad goalkeeper for the Los Angeles Galaxy in 1996, the inaugural season of Major League Soccer. A native of San Diego, Green earned a bachelor's degree in physical education with an emphasis in athletic training from Cal Lutheran in 1994. Most recently, he completed his master's degree in physical education with an emphasis in the psychological aspects of sport from Minnesota State University.
