Fowler Leads Women's Golf to Third Place Finish
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Junior Abby Fowler placed fourth to lead the Xavier women’s golf team to a third place finish out of nine teams at the Women’s Wolverine Invitational at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
Fowler saved her best round of the tournament for Sunday’s final round. She shot a 76 on Sunday after a 78 and an 83 in the first two rounds to finish with a 54-hole total of 237.
As a team, Xavier shot a 326 on Sunday, giving the Musketeers a three-round total of 980. XU finished behind Michigan and James Madison in the tournament.
Junior Emily Shoplik placed seventh for the Musketeers, shooting a pair of 81s after an opening round 79 to tally a 241 for the weekend.
XU’s third junior, Sarah Sparks, tied for tenth by shooting her second 81 of the weekend on Sunday, giving her a 246 for 54 holes.
Xavier freshman Kara Manis and senior Jill Stein tied for 30th overall with a total score of 258.
The Musketeers will return to action on Oct. 20-21 at the Great Smokies Invitational in Waynesville, N.C.
