ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Xavier University women’s golf team will compete in the Wolverine Invitation Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 22-23). The tournament will be hosted by the University of Michigan at the par-71, 6,112 yard U-M Golf Course. Fourteen teams will be participating in the 54-hole two day tournament.
The field consists of host school Michigan, Akron, Bucknell, Butler, Delaware, Eastern Michigan, Ferris State, Florida International, Georgetown, Grand Valley State, Illinois, North Texas, Toledo and Xavier.
The last time Xavier competed in the Wolverine Invitational was in 2010 where it finished 12th in a field of 17 teams. However, three current Musketeers, Kristin Tan, Christine Cash, and Breanna Patz, played in that tournament and will hope their experience translates to a higher finish.
The Musketeers are coming off a sixth place finish at the Chip-N Club Invitational with a team score of 943 (+79). Sophomore Abby Smith tallied her second career top-10 finish coming in seventh with a score of 228 (+12). Freshman Shane Crutchfield had an impressive start to her collegiate career, coming in 17th place and a one-over-par final round.
Junior Ariel McNair will get her first start of the season in Ann Arbor. McNair finished the 2011-12 season with a 79.2 scoring average in 20 rounds of play. McNair tied Kara Manis with the fifth lowest scoring average in Xavier history for a sophomore, and currently holds the eighth lowest career average with an 80.1.
All three rounds will be played with a shotgun start. The first and third rounds are due to start at 8:30 am and the second round will be a continuous play from the first round. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com. Stay tuned to GoXavier.com for your latest news and updates of women’s golf.
