CINCINNATI - Under the direction of head coach Tom Elfers, the Xavier Musketeers women’s golf team will open the 2013-14 season on Sunday, Sept. 8 with the IU Fall Kickoff at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind.
The single-day, 36-hole tournament will play on the par-72, 6,331-yard course. Along with the Musketeers, golfers from Notre Dame, Purdue, DePauw, Indiana State, Louisville, Youngstown State, Xavier, Cincinnati, IUPUI and Indiana will participate in the event.
Xavier will send seven golfers, led by senior Ariel McNair (Aurora, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) in the No. 1 spot. Sophomore Shane Crutchfield (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg) will play in the No. 2 spot, with senior Christine Cash (Paducah, Ky./Heath High School) third, junior Abby Smith (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin County High School) fourth and Rachel Johnson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) fifth. Grace Howie (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/The Edge School) and Kristin Tan (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names Academy) will compete as individuals.
This weekend's tournament is the start of a five-event fall slate for the Musketeers. They will compete at the Yale Women’s Intercollegiate Sept. 20-22 in New Haven, Conn. before heading south to Daytona Beach, Fla. for the LPGA Xavier Invitational Oct. 5-7.
The final two events of the fall are the Hoosier Fall Invitational, Oct. 19-20 at Hickory Stick Golf Club in Greenwood, Ind. and the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate, Oct. 27-29.
