XU's McNair Ties for Third at the PGA Minority Collegiate Championship

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Xavier women's golfer Ariel McNair carded an 84-74-74=232 over the weekend at the 25th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship presented by Brown Capital Management. Her three-round total of 232 tied her for third place in the Women's Independent Division. The 54-hole Championship was contested at PGA Golf Club. Bethune-Cookman University's men's team and the University of Texas-Pan American's women's team captured Division I team titles at the event. In the Women's Independent Division, Towson University junior Airielle Dawson easily won the title, closing with an even-par 72 and a 220 total. Cecilia Rezk of Northwood University finished in second place, seven strokes back of Dawson. McNair tied with Pacific's Valerie Kitamori at 232. The 25th edition of the championship featured nearly 160 players representing 40 colleges and universities. Each year, students from participating schools in the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship can apply to receive scholarship awards from State Farm Insurance for their academic excellence at their respective institutions. The committee considered the student's GPA and also awarded based on community service and their passion for the game of golf. The scholarship recipients GPA average was an impressive 3.67. McNair was one of 10 student-athletes selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship from State Farm. Final-Round Scores: Women's Independent Division
