Women's Golf in Third Place After First Round of CAA Championship
MIDLOTHIAN, Va. - The Xavier women's golf team is in third place after the first round of the Inaugural Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golf Championship. XU had a combined 322 after the first round to rank third behind James Madison (305) and William & Mary (321). Sophomore Sarah Sparks carded a one-over par 73 to lead the team and end the first day in second place, four shots behind James Madison's Carol Green who had a tournament best 69. Classmate Emily Shoplik was tied for seventh with a first round 80 as XU's second best individual performer. Sophomore Abby Fowler and senior Beth Hamilton fired an 84 and 85 respectively to round out the scoring for the Musketeers. Fowler was in 16th place while Hamilton was in a tie for 17th. Also competing for Xavier was senior Kelly Bego who was in a tie for 23rd with a first round 88.
