Women's Golf Bounces Back in Second Round at Ohio State

The Musketeers are currently tied for 13th out of 15 teams after two rounds at the Ohio State Lady Buckeye in Columbus, Ohio. Under overcast and windy conditions, the team shot an opening round 340. However, the sun came out for the second round and the squad improved 17 strokes by firing a 323 for a two round total of 663 (340-323) on Saturday.

Junior Beth Hamilton (Norman, Okla./Lakota East [Ohio]) carded a 159 (83-76) to lead the way for the team. Sophomore Jill Stein (Sussex, Wisc./Hartland Arrowhead) finished right behind, turning in a 161 (81-80). Freshman Abby Fowler (Medford, Ore./South Medford) shot a 165 (85-80).

Senior Kim Farrell (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic), playing in her last tournament for Xavier, improved nine strokes from an opening round 96 to finish with a 183 (96-87). Junior Kelly Bego (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) carded a 185 (91-94). Freshman Sarah Sparks (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) fired a 189 (93-96).

Kent State is the current leader with a 597 total with host Ohio State just six strokes behind with a 603. Gabby Wedding (Kent State) is the current leader after posting a 147 (79-68).

The team plays their final round of the year on Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
