CINCINNATI – The Xavier women’s golf team begin postseason play tomorrow, through Sunday, April 21, at the CAA Championship. For the second time in tournament history, the event will be played at the par-72 6,066 yards St. James Plantation Reserve Court.  Last year, the Musketeers finished the tournament in fourth place with a team score of 302-311-310=923.

The Musketeers are still searching for their first CAA title but have come close. In 2003 and 2005 they were runner-up to James Madison. Last year XU had four players finish in the top-20 including returning starters Christine Cash, and Breanna Patz. Cash led the Musketeers with a score of 228 (+12) and tied for seventh in the tournament.  Patz finished tied for 12th only two strokes back from Cash with a 230 (+14).

Xavier is coming off a second place finish at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic where the team fired a 920 (+56). The Musketeers were highlighted by sophomore Abby Smith, who posted a career-low 226 (+ 10), and finished tied for sixth. Smith was acknowledged as the CAA Women’s Golfer of the Week after her performance in Chandler, Ariz.

The women are expected to tee-off 9:45 am while live stats are available throughout the rounds on Golfstat.com. Stay tuned to GoXavier.com for the latest news and updates of women’s golf.
