SOUTHPORT, N.C.- The Xavier women’s golf team will conclude its regular season with the CAA Championship in Southport, N.C. April 20-22. The Musketeers will play at the par-72, 7,100 yard Reserve Course at St. James Plantation, designed by Nicklaus Design. Xavier finished in third place last year in the tournament with a 925 (+61) at Pinehurst Course No. 6 in Pinehurst, N.C.

The Musketeers enter the Championship placing in the top-10 in three of their last four spring tournaments, and two top-five finishes. Sophomore Christine Cash has a team-low 77 scoring average and leads the team with four top-20 finishes. Cash has two of the team’s three sub-par rounds.

Senior Michelle Winkler enters her last collegiate tournament tied for second of the team with a 77.4 scoring average. Winkler shot her lowest round of the year at the Challenge at Onion Creek with a 3-over-par 73. The highlight of Winkler’s season, and possibly career, came when she score an ace on a par-3 at the Onion Creek Golf Course.

Junior Breanna Patz is tied with Winkler with a 77.4 scoring average. Patz has finished in the top-20 twice and top-10 in the nine events she’s competed in. Sophomore Kristin Tan is fourth on the squad with a 78.1 scoring average for 23 rounds. Tan earned CAA Women’s Golfer of the Week on October 26 after her second place finish at the Memphis Women’s Fall Invite.

Sophomore Ariel McNair has a 79.2 season scoring average. McNair has competed in eight events, having her best round at the Circling Raven (74). Freshman Abby Smith and junior Alexandra Lake round out the team with scoring averages of 81.2 and 85.3 respectively. Smith recently fired a career-low 1-under-par at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.
