Lady Musketeers Finish Seventh at Elon College Tourney

BURLINGTON, NC ---The Xavier women's golf team completed their 10 day tour through North Carolina on Sunday by coming back from 10th to finish in seventh place in the Elon College Invitational. 15 teams competed in the tournament.

Xavier was led by senior co-captain Melissa Beck (Cincinnati) who fired an 11-over-par 155 (76-79) and finished in seventh place overall. It was Beck's best finish of the season. "Melissa played really well. She is the most prepared golfer we have. She's a good decision maker on the course and focuses on the shot at hand. She really knows how to manage a course. She hit the ball as well as anyone in the tournament, and now has another top 10 finish under her belt. I am proud of her efforts," said Head Coach Tony Kountz.

Senior Paula Greening (Northfield, IL) shot a 161 (83-78), good for 22nd place overall, and sophomore Kelly Bego (Indianapolis, IN) shot a 164 (83-81), which tied her for 30th overall.

Kountz was pleased with the team. "I was proud of the way they came back in the last round. We went out and played hard, and stayed focused," he said.

The women's golfers are off now until April 2 and 3 when they will compete in the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Jaguars Spring Invitational at Butler University.
