Xavier Women's Golfers Finish 14th of 21
The Xavier University women's golf team played two rounds of the Bradford Creek Spring Invitational at East Carolina University. They finished 14th of 21 teams and were unable to play the final round because of inclement weather.
Head Coach Tony Kountz felt the Musketeers were poised for a big round. "I am very disappointed we did not have an opportunity to play the third round. I really thought we could have moved up at least five spots. We were only eight strokes out of eighth place, which we could of made up day three," said Kountz. Xavier was led by senior co-captains Melissa Beck (Cincinnati) and Paula Greening (Northfield, IL). Beck finished tied for 19th overall with a 158 (78-80) through two rounds. She led all golfers with six total birdies. Greening was tied for 42nd with a 164 (75-89) going into the final round. Kountz's general feelings toward the tournament: "The team got off to a great first day leading the field in several categories, led by Paula and Melissa. The second day we couldn't put it together. The weather was cold, windy, and wet, and we let the conditions affect us as a team." The golfers will compete again this weekend (March 10-11) in the Elon College Women's Collegiate Invitational held at Elon College in North Carolina.
