Women's Golf Team Wraps Up Tournament

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The women’s golf team finished twelfth out of thirteen teams in the Islander Spring Invitational hosted by Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.

Freshman Abby Fowler (Medford, Ore./South Medford) played consistent, carding a 240 (84 – 78 – 78), which tied her for eleventh overall. Fellow freshman Emily Shoplik (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) was the next best Musketeer, finishing with a 253 (84 – 83 – 86). Sophomore Jill Stein (Sussex, Wisc./Hartland Arrowhead) was one stroke behind her, carding a 254 (81 – 87 – 86). Junior Beth Hamilton (Norman, Okla./Lakota East[Ohio]) bounced back from an opening round 94 to shoot 264 (94 – 85 – 85). Junior Kelly Bego (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) rounded out the scoring with a 268 (91 – 89 – 88).

Texas El Paso shot a blistering 296 in the third and final round to win the tournament, edging out Texas A&M – Corpus Christi by four strokes. Ashlie Simmons of McLennan CC was the medalist of the tournament, shooting a 230 (77 – 81 – 72).

The Musketeers will compete next in the Lady Pirate Golf Classic in Greenville, N.C. on March 10-12.
