CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - The Xavier women's golf team began its Spring season on Monday at the Islander Spring Invitational hosted by Texas A&M - Corpus Christi.

After the first day, freshman Abby Fowler (South Medford, Ore./South Medford H.S.) is in eighth place individually after shooting rounds of 84 and 78. Fowler is just six shots off the leader.

Also in the Top 40 individually for the Musketeers are freshman Emily Shoplik (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area H.S.) and sophomore Jill Stein (Sussex, Wisc./Hartland Arrowhead H.S.) who are in 28th and 31st place respectively.

As a team, Xavier, led by first-year Head Coach Gina Yoder, is tenth in the 13 team field, but is just nine strokes out of sixth place.

The Islander Spring Invitational will conclude on Tuesday.
