Women's Golf Finishes Eighth At Palmetto Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Junior Abby Smith (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin County High School) finished tied for 16th place overall (73-78-73/224) as the Xavier women’s golf team recorded a team score of 913 (307-314-292) to take eighth place at the 2013 Palmetto Intercollegiate.
Melissa Siviter of Georgia State carded a three-round score of 214 (-2) to take the individual title. Kansas won the team title (297-295-284/876), while Georgia State (308-288-283/879) and ETSU (294-306-299/899) finished second and third, respectively.
Playing on the Par 72 – 5,972 yard course, sophomore Shane Crutchfield (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg) finished tied for 43rd place overall (82-77-72/231). Freshman Grace Howie (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/The Edge School) finished the two-day event with a 232 (80-77-75), which was good enough to give her a share of 47th place.
Seniors Ariel McNair (Aurora, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and Christine Cash (Paducah, Ky./Heath High School) rounded out the XU scoring. McNair carded a third round 72 (78-83-72) and finished tied for 53rd place, while Cash shot 237 (76-82-79) and tied for 65th place.
The Blue and White will return to the course when they open the spring campaign with a trip to Amelia Island, Fla. to compete at the Amelia Island Collegiate from Feb. 17-18.
