MYRTLE BEACH, N.C. - Sophomore Mary Beth McKenna and Freshman Rachel Levi had the best tournament of their collegiate careers as the Xavier women's golf team missed a tie for first place by only three strokes, finishing in third (907, +43) at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate Tournament.

McKenna fired a 76 to finish the tournament at seven-over par in fourth place.  After leading the field after the first round, Rachel Levi held on with a three-over 75 in her final round to finish tied for sixth.

Mary Beth McKenna's finish is the best by a women's golfer since October 31, 2005 when Kara Manis tied for third at the Dayton Fall Invitational.  The Sea Trail Intercollegiate is also the best team finish since 2005.  Multiple XU women last graced the top ten at last years CAA Championships when Kathleen Hardy, Manis, and McKenna all had top-ten finishes.

Bethune-Cookman College and Elon University tied for first place just three strokes ahead of Xavier.  Andrea Downer of Murray State won the individual title with a final tournament score of 215 (-1).

Senior Diana Torry missed the top ten by one stroke, finishing in a tie for 11th at 14-over after a final round of 79.  Torry had her best outing since 2006 when she tied for eighth at the Century Tel Bobcat Classic.

Not far behind, freshman Audrey Fellmeth finished at 17-over, tied for 19th after carding a final-round 78.  Sophomore Lindsay Steiner ended her tournament with a 78 to finish in a tie for 30th at 21-over par.

Next weekend the women's golf team heads to Pennsylvania for the Nittany Lion Invitational on September 30th and October 1st.
