Women's Golf Takes Second Place At The Yale Intercollegiate

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior Ariel McNair (Aurora, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and sophomore Shane Crutchfield (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg) led the way for the Xavier women’s golf team as they finished the third round with a 304 team score, good enough to take second place at the Yale Intercollegiate.
McNair carded a 72, while Crutchfield fired a 74 in the final round as they both finished in a tie for fourth place with final scores of 219.
Junior Abby Smith (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin County High School), who tied an all-time program record for low round with a 2-under 69 during Saturday’s round, shot an 82 and finished in a tie for 16th place (75-69-82/226).
The Musketeers (303-286-304/893) finished 19 shots back of tournament champion and host Yale (292-292-290/874) and were six shots better than third place Penn (304-293-302/899).
Playing on the par-71, 6,100-yard Yale Golf Course, senior Christine Cash (Paducah, Ky./Heath High School) carded a final round 77 and climbed from 31st place to finish tied for 24th position, while freshman Grace Howie (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/The Edge School) rounded out the Blue and White’s scorecard, turning in a third round 81 to finish the event tied for 55th place.
Freshman Rachel Johnson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) and senior Kristin Tan (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names Academy), competing as individuals, registered scores of 86 (t-55th) and 84 (t-61st), respectively.
Xavier, who has finished in the top-3 in both tournaments this fall, will return to the course when they host the LPGA Xavier Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla. from Oct. 5-7.
