Women's Golf Finishes Ninth at Sea Trail Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. - The Xavier women's golf team steadily improved throughout the Sea Trail Intercollegiate, knocking 11 strokes off their first round to finish in ninth place overall at 947 (+83). Junior Mary Beth McKenna finished in the top ten for XU at the 5,947 yard, par-72 Willlard Byrd Course.
East Tennessee State took the team crown with a 41-over par performance, including the medalist, Laura Jansone, who finished at even par (216).
McKenna tied for ninth place in her best outing of the season so far, steadily improving with rounds of 79, 75, and 73 to finish eleven over par at 227. Sophomore Rachel Levi was the second-best Xavier finisher, firing rounds of 79, 78, and 80 to earn a tie for 36th at 21-over.
Sophomore Audrey Fellmeth played to a tie for 55th at 242 (+26) after going 83-79-80 for the weekend. Newcomer Michelle Winkler posted her best round of the tournament to close, a 78 that followed rounds of 81 and 85, to finish tied for 58th at 28-over.
Senior Lindsay Cornell rounded up Xavier finishers with an 83-82-83 tournament, earning her a tie for 68th at 32-over. Lindsay Steiner played as an individual, going 84-83-83 for a 250 (+34) finish in a tie for 76th.
After a grueling turn between the UC Women's Classic and the Sea Trail three days later, the Musketeers will have the next two weekends off before hosting the LPGA International Xavier Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla. from October 10-12.
