Women's Golf Takes Third In Season-Opening Event

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - The Xavier Musketeers women's golf team concluded its season-opening tournament with a third-place finish at the IU Fall Kickoff at the Purgatory Golf Club.
Senior Ariel McNair (Aurora, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) led the Musketeers, finishing in a tie for eighth place, individually. McNair shot a first round 76 and followed it up with a 1-over 73 in the final round.
XU carded back-to-back rounds of 300 to take third place, finishing just three shots behind second place Indiana (296-301=597) and 30 strokes behind tournament champion Louisville (285-285=570).
Junior Abby Smith (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin County High School) finished one stroke behind McNair and finished in a tie for 16th place. Smith shot a seven-over 79 in the first round, but bounced back in a big way with a even-par 72 in the final round.
Sophomore Shane Crutchfield (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg) and freshman Rachel Johnson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) each submitted a two-round score of 152 to place in a tie for 20th place, while senior Christine Cash (Paducah, Ky./Heath High School) rounded out the Musketeer scoring. Cash finished in a tie for 32nd place with a total of 155 (77-78).
The Blue and White will return to the course when they head to New Haven, Conn. to take part in the Yale Women's Intercollegiate from Sept. 20-22. Results and recaps from the tournament will be provided at GoXavier.com at the conclusion of each day.
