XU Takes Fourth Place at 2012 CAA Women's Golf Championship

SOUTHPORT, N.C. - The Xavier women's golf team finished the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Championship in fourth place after posting a three-round total of 923 (+59, 302-311-310) at the Reserve Club at St. James Plantation. Sophomore Christine Cash was the Musketeers' top finisher after she carded a 78-72-78=228 (+12), which was tied for seventh-best.
The UNCW Seahawks claimed the top spot for the second consecutive year with a score of 909 after 54-holes. Georgia State's Charlotte Lorentzen earned medalist honors for the second time in her career with a three-day total of 217 (+1). James Madison claimed second place overall (294-318-301=913 +49) while Georgia State claimed third place (310-306-302=918 +54).
The threat of inclement weather prompted CAA officials to schedule an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for today's third round. Luckily, the weather held off and teams were able to get in all 18 holes despite intermittent episodes of rain.
Sophomore Kristin Tan carded the second-lowest tournament total for the Musketeers with a 73-77-79=229 (+13), earning her in a tie for ninth place. Junior Breanna Patz was one stroke behind Tan with a 75-78-77=230 (+14). Patz finished in a tie for 12th.
Senior Michelle Winkler fired today's low round for the Musketeers at 4-over-pat 76. For the tournament, Winkler finished with a 76-84-79=236 (+20) and in a tied for 20th place. Freshman Abby Smith rounded out the scoring for XU with a 81-88-82=251 (+35) which tied for 40th place.
