Women's Golf in Tie for Third at CAA Championship After Second Round

SOUTHPORT, N.C.- After the second day of the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golf Championship, the Xavier women's golf team is in a tie for third place out of 10 teams. The Musketeers posted a 23-over-par round of 311 for the day (302-311=613), highlighted by sophomore Christine Cash's team-best 72 (E). The Musketeers are only eight shots behind leader and defending champion UNCW (300-305=605) and just one shot behind second-placed James Madison (294-318=612). XU is tied with Old Dominion which carded a team score of 314 for today's round (299-314=613). Cash's even-par 72 was her third-lowest round posted this season. At 6-over-par for the tournament, Cash (78-72=150) moves into a tie for fifth place with teammate sophomore Kristin Tan (73-77=150). Junior Breanna Patz sits in a tie for 10th place in the individual standings after firing a 78 (+6) on Saturday (75-78=153). Senior Michelle Winkler carded a 12-over 88 and is tied for 26th (76-84=160) while freshman Abby Smith recorded her first birdie of the tournament and finished with an 88 (+16). Smith is in a tie for 44th place (81-88=169). Sunday's final round is set for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The threat of inclement weather may push back the start time.
