Manis and Hardy Lead XU to Second After Day One at CAA's

April 20, 2007

RICHMOND, Va. - After day one at the CAA Women's Championship, Xavier stands in second place just five strokes back from powerhouse UNC-Wilmington.  XU is led by seniors Kara Manis and Kathleen Hardy, who both shot overall top-ten rounds for the Musketeers.  With the field spread out across the board, Xavier is in position for a shot at the team title at the Homestead Resort.

UNC-Wilmington's Carmen Perez-Narbon, the CAA Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, finds herself currently in a tie for 12th place at six-over.  However, three of her teammates played well enough to be tie for second with XU's All-CAA First Team member Kara Manis at four-over, leading UNC-Wilmington to their day one lead (306, +18).  Lauren Folgosa of Richmond is alone atop the leaderboard at three-over par.

Kathleen Hardy carded a first round 77, one stroke off Manis' pace, to earn her spot in a tie for sixth.  Freshman standout and All-CAA Second Team member Mary Beth McKenna was not far behind her senior teammates, carding a six-over par 78 to tie for 12th place.  Sophomore Lindsay Cornell shot 40 on the front and back nines to finish with an eight-over par 80 in a tie for 19th.  Junior Diana Torry rounded out play for the Musketeers, tying for 26th overall with an eleven-over 83.

The second round is set for a 10 a.m. tee-off Saturday morning.
