Women's Golf In Fourth Place After Day 1 Of The BIG EAST Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Freshman Grace Howie (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/The Edge School) turned in a five-over 77 (tied for third) as the Xavier women’s golf team registered a team score of 321 to sit in fourth place after day one of the 2014 BIG EAST Championships at the LPGA International Golf Course.
Harin Lee of St. John’s carded a two-over 74 and sits at the top of the individual leaderboard. Seton Hall leads team scoring with an opening round 314 (+26). Georgetown is three strokes back at 317, SJU is six back at 320 and the Musketeers, at 33-over (321), round out the top four.
Senior Ariel McNair (Aurora, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) battled through a rough start to finish the first 18 holes with an eight-over 80 to sit in a tie for tenth place. Sophomore Shane Crutchfield (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg) registered a nine-over 76 and is currently tied for 14th place.
J Senior Christine Cash (Paducah, Ky./Heath High School) carded an 83 (+11) to earn a share of 19th place, while junior Abby Smith (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin County High School) rounded out the Blue and White’s scorecard, turning in a 12-over 84 (t-25th).
The second round of the BIG EAST Championships begins Friday morning at 7:45 a.m.
