Women's Golf Fires a 312 in Final Round at CAA Championship

PINEHURST, N.C. - Junior Kara Manis fired a tournament low round of 70 (-1) on Sunday as the Xavier University women's golf team closed out the 2006 Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golf Championship on the par 71, 5,954-yard Pinehurst No. 6. XU carded its best round of the tournament with a 28-over par 312 to finish with a three-round total of 971 (+119) for a fifth-place finish in the field of nine teams.
The final round of 312 allowed the Musketeers to overtake William & Mary as the Musketeers beat the Tribe by two strokes. CAA newcomer Georgia State claimed the team title with a final round of 301 (+17) en route to a 22-stroke victory over UNC-Wilmington.
Freshman Lindsay Cornell fired a final round of 78 (+7) and was Xavier's top individual finisher at 24-over par (237). Cornell finished in a tie for eighth place with James Madison's Diana Meza and Misha Harbey of William & Mary. Manis' 70 came after rounds of 86 and 82 to finish with a three-day total of 238 (+25) and gave the junior an 11th place finish.
Sophomore Diana Torry fired a 7-over par 78 for a total of 239 (+26) and tie for 12th on the individual leaderboard. Colette Ryan turned in her best round of the weekend with an 86 (+15) to finish with a 284 (+71). Erin Gore recorded a final round of 87 (+16) for a three-day total of 257 (+44).
