Abby Smith shot a career-best in the second round with a 70 (-2).

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The women’s golf team had an outstanding outing in the second round Tuesday, as the Musketeers fired a team score and tournament-low 296. The Musketeers entered the day tied for seventh with three other schools, but pole vaulted into third. Xavier tied a season-low round score while sophomore Abby Smith fired a career-low 70 (-2) and now sits tied for fourth.
Smith leap-frogged the competition Wednesday with her career-best performance. Smith entered the round tied for 33rd and finished the day 29 positions higher on the leader board. Ariel McNair is tied for 16th place after her 75 (+3) and Breanna Patz fired a 74 (+2), sitting tied for 23rd.
The Musketeers trail only leader Boise State (608) and Portland State (619). Xavier is sits two shots shy of the Portland State and 13 strokes from the top spot. Hayley Young of Boise State still leads the field with a score of 142(-2).
