The CAA Championship is next on Coach Elfers' schedule

Illini Spring Classic Cancelled Due to Weather Conditions

April 7, 2007

URBANA, Ill. - Thanks to Mother Nature, the Xavier women's golf team will not have their final scheduled tournament before for the CAA Championships.  The 2007 Illini Spring Classic at Stone Creek Golf Club, scheduled for this weekend, has been cancelled due to bitter cold temperatures and high gusting winds.

Play began as planned at 11 a.m. on Friday, but after less than an hour of action teams were called back to the clubhouse.  The Coaches decided to cancel the tournament at 12:45 p.m. as the forecast for the rest of Friday and for Saturday did not show improvement.

The wind chill dropped into the mid-teens, resulting in conditions unsuitable for play.  Junior Diana Torry described the practice round as an undertaking in cold weather survival.  Torry and the rest of the Xavier women had to dig deep into their suitcases to find enough layers to stay warm.  While the tournament would have been excellent preparation for the CAA Championships, Torry agreed that conditions were unfit for a golf tournament.

The Musketeers will turn their focus to the CAA Championship, coming in two weeks on Friday, April 20.  The tournament will last three days in Hot Spring, Virginia.
