RICHMOND, Ky. - Sophomore Shane Crutchfield (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg) led the Xavier women's golf team in its first round on Friday by shooting six-over 78, giving the Musketeers sole possession of second place after day one of the two-day Colonel Classic hosted by Eastern Kentucky.
The teams played only one round on Friday and will play just one round on Saturday. Saturday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. The 12-team event is being held at the par-72, 5,838-yard Arlington Golf Club.
EKU shot an opening round 313, two shots better than XU's 315. Morehead State (317) is third and USC Upstate (322) is fourth.
Junior Abby Smith (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin County High School) and seniors Ariel McNair (Aurora, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) and Christine Cash (Paducah, Ky./Heath High School) each fired seven-over 79s to tie for 12th place.
Freshman Grace Howie (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/The Edge School) rounded out the Blue and White's scorecard, turning in an 16-over 88 (t-59th).
Freshman Rachel Johnson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) and senior Kristin Tan (Seattle, Wash./Holy Names Academy), competing as individuals, registered scores of 83 (t-37th) and 87 (t-56th), respectively.
