WGolf Take Second Place in Rio Verde

RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Xavier women’s golf team earned a second place finish at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational Sunday. Xavier tied Arkansas-Little Rock for a second place finish. The Musketeers fired a team score of 600 (+24), 304-296, for the two-round tournament. Freshman Shane Crutchfield scored a career-low one-under-par 71 in the second round and finished with a total score of 145 (+1).
Crutchfield placed a career-best finish, tying for second place out of the 88 competitors in the field. Crutchfield entered the second round tied for 11th place, but after her four birdies and three bogey round, she ranked in the top-two.
Abby Smith, Ariel McNair, and Breanna Patz all fired a second round score of 75 (+3). Smith finished the tournament tied for 23rd place with a final score of 152 (+8). McNair finished the tournament tied for 33rd place with a total score of 154 (+10).
Patz and sophomore Christine Cash each tied for 37th place with a score of 155 (+11). Cash shot an opening round score of two-over-par 74.
The Musketeers were just three strokes shy of the title. Northern Arizona won the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational with a score of 597 (+21). Savana Bezdicek of Northern Arizona was the medalist after shooting even par for the tournament, 144.
