MIAMI LAKES, Fla. - Freshman Shane Crutchfield finished her visit to her home state by carding a team-best 2-over par, 74 to lead the Musketeers to an eighth-place finish at the Sir Pizza Terrapin Classic at the Senator Course.
As a team the Musketeers posted a +17 (305) on the day at the course at Shula's Golf Club to give them a 53-over par, 917 for the three-round tournament.
Crutchfield, a native of St. Petersburg, Fla., shot a team-low 10-over par (226) for the entire tournament as she finished tied for 18th. On Tuesday the freshman posted two birdies on the front to help give her the best 54-hole total of the year.
Juniors Christine Cash and Ariel McNair, along with senior Breanna Patz, all shot a 5-over par, 77 on the day helping Xavier move up one spot in the standings after two rounds of play on Monday. Patz and Cash each had two birdies in their rounds.
Sophomore Abby Smith, who led the Musketeers after 36 holes, had her highest round total shooting an 8-over par, 80 on the day. She finished tied for 30th with a 13-over par, 229.
Following Smith in the standings were Patz (+15/t-38th), Cash (+18/t-50th) and McNair (+25/t-69th).
The Musketeers three-day stroke total of 917 was the second lowest recorded by the team in the 2012-13 season. Xavier carded 916 strokes at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in October.
North Carolina State, ranked 20th in the nation, had the three top individual finishers and champion Lindsay McGetrick (-4). The Wolfpack had 874 strokes and were 4-under par as a team.
The Musketeers return to the course beginning March 8 for the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational in Arizona.
