MIAMI LAKES, Fla. - Sophomore Abby Smithcarded the low score of the day for the Xavier women's golf team that sits in ninth place after day one of the Sir Pizza Terrapin Classic being held at Shulas Golf Club.

As a team the Musketeers posted a combined 612 (+36) after playing the first 36 holes on the par-72 Senator Course. Smith took a total of 149 strokes (+5) to grab a tie of 11th heading into the final day of competition on Wednesday.

Smith started off the day firing a team-best one-over par on the first 18 holes before her plus-four her second time on the course. Two of her three birdies on the day came at the fifth hole of the course. She had the most difficulty with 17 where she had two bogeys.

Freshman Shane Crutchfield returned to her home state where she netted a 152 (+8) and is tied for 23rd. She had four birdies on the day including three in the first round where she shot a two-over pat, 75. Senior Breanna Patzis in a tie for 41st after carding a 10-over par, 154 over 18 holes.

Junior Christine Cash came back in the afternoon and shot a five-over par, 77 to finish tied for 50th and junior Ariel McNairposted a 20-over par on the day.

The Musketeers return to the course beginning at 8 a.m.

After 36 holes No. 20 North Carolina State (+9) held the team lead and the Wolfpack's Brittany Marchand (-4) was the individual leader.

Other Xavier players who were on the course but not included in the scoring were senior Alexandra Lake and junior Kristin Tan.
