MIAMI LAKES, Fla. - Battling high winds during today's round, the Xavier women's golf team opened their spring season in twelfth place at the Papa John's Intercollegiate held at Don Shula's Golf Club. Senior Kara Manis and freshman Mary Beth McKenna currently lead the Musketeers at 10-over par (82).
The University of Louisville leads the field at 20-over par (308), followed by San Jose State University in second place (312, +24), and East Carolina University in third (314, +26). Hosts University of Miami find themselves in fifth place at 29-over (317).
Individual leader Cindy LaCrosse of Louisville finished the day at one-over par (73). She leads Nina Rodriguez of San Jose State and Tiffany Prats of Miami by two strokes.
Manis and McKenna are both tied for 34th place in the individual standings. Two strokes behind them, tied for 46th place, are junior Diana Torry and sophomore Lindsay Cornell (84, +12). Freshman Tracey Clarke ended the round a stroke behind Torry and Cornell, finishing tied for 50th place (85, +13).
Xavier will continue tournament play on Monday, teeing off at an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
