CINCINNATI – Junior forward Amber Harris and sophomore center Ta’Shia Phillips have been named to the 2008-09 Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List as announced by the Atlanta Tip Off Club on Friday, December 19.  Phillips was also placed on the 2008-09 Wooden Award Preseason Watch List while Harris earned mention on that prestigious list during the 2007-08 campaign.

Phillips is leading the Atlantic 10 in rebounding at 11.4 rebounds per game and in field goal percentage at .628 pct.  The 2007-08 A-19 Rookie of the Year is also seventh in the league at 14.6 points per game and has led XU to a 9-3 record, including wins over LSU, Indiana and Michigan State.

Harris, an A-10 First Team last season, has missed the entire 2008-09 season due to a knee injury.  She could be back sometime in February.

For the sixth consecutive season, presenting sponsor AT&T will once again set the standard in allowing fans to participate in determining this year’s winner. Through the power and ease of text messaging, fan voting will account for an unprecedented 25% of the final results – more than any other national college basketball award.

In February, the Naismith Trophy voting academy, comprised of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country, will narrow its preseason list to the Top 30 players in the nation. Those players, and others who distinguish themselves throughout the season, will be eligible for the final ballot in March.
