Women's Basketball Signs Four Recruits
CINCINNATI--- Xavier womens basketball head coach Kevin McGuff received four National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. The class is McGuffs first as Xaviers head coach.
Xavier has received letters from Chelsea Chowning of Berea, Ky., Miranda Green of Indianapolis, Michelle Miller of Cincinnati and Chenara Wilson of Cleveland.
Were pleased to have these four coming Xavier next year, McGuff said. They will all address immediate needs and help to give us depth as we look to build this program. Theyll complement the players that we have coming back very well.
Chelsea Chowning is a 6-0 wing player from Lexington Catholic High School who was rated 38th among shooting guards by All-Star Girls Report. As a junior, she averaged 22.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.4 steals per game. A 4.0 student, Chowning has won numerous academic honors.
In her three years at Lexington Catholic, Chowning has earned All-City, All-District, All-Region and All-State honors of some kind every season. Among her honors as a junior, she was named All-State by the Associated Press, the Lexington Herald Leader and the Louisville Courier Journal. The Knights went 30-3 last season, won the district championship and were a regional semifinalist.
Miranda Green is a 5-6 point guard from Pike High School in Indianapolis who was rated 56th among point guards by All-Star Girls Report. As a junior, she averaged 21.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. A two-time All-Conference selection, Green was also named All-County and Second Team All-State as a junior. She has scored 1,000 career points and set the school single game and season records for steals with 12 and 74.
Last year the Red Devils were sectional champions while going 13-11. A six-year member of the Indianas Finest AAU Team, Green has won three AAU State Tournaments, and was named the AUU 13-under and 16-underr AAU MVP.
Michelle Miller is a 5-11 shooting guard from North College Hill High School in Cincinnati who was rated 39th among shooting guards by All-Star Girls Report. She averaged 19.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists as a junior. She is a three-time All Miami Valley Conference First Team member and is the first female in NCH history to score 1,000 points. In AAU action, she played five years for the Classicway Cagers, a tenure that included the 1998 state championship.
In addition to her basketball honors, Miller is a highly rated volleyball player. She was Southwest District Player of the Year as a junior and is a four-time MVC First Team member.
Chenara Wilson is a 6-2 post player from East Technical High School in Cleveland. She averaged 17.0 points and 11.0 rebounds and 7.0 blocks per game as a junior. She was named Team MVP as a junior and was the squads leading scorer and rebounder. She was also named to the All Northeast Ohio Second Team.
Xavier is off to a 1-0 start this season after a 62-54 win at Pepperdine on Friday. The Musketeers will return to action on Friday against Louisiana-Monroe in the Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational at Colorado State. XUs home slate will open against Central Connecticut State in the Provident Bank Xavier Invitational on Dec. 7 at 1 p.m.
