CINCINNATI - Freshman center Ta'Shia Phillips has been honored as the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. This marks Phillips' first Rookie of the Week selection of the year.
A Xavier student-athlete has now been selected as the A-10 Rookie of the Week in four-straight weeks as sophomore Amber Harris earned the accolade in each of the final three weeks of the 2006-07 season.
Phillips averaged 14.5 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game in helping XU to a spotless 2-0 week. The Indianapolis native started the week by scoring four points and hauling in 13 rebounds in Xavier's 72-68 win over Penn State. She followed that performance up with a breakout effort vs. Valparaiso on Sunday. Phillips notched her first-career double-double vs. the Crusaders, scoring 25 points and snaring 12 rebounds in 23 minutes of action. She also dished-out three assists and blocked a shot on Sunday.
Phillips, a McDonald's All-American selection last season, is averaging 11.7 points per game and is second in the A-10 at 10.3 rebounds per game.
The Musketeers will return to action on Friday, November 23 when they welcome Houston to Cintas Center as part of the National City Xavier Invitational. Game time is set for 8 p.m. and will be preceded by the McNeese State vs. Liberty matchup set for 6 p.m.
